Travel in Maldives

Tailor-made trips in Maldives, designed by our team in Delhi and run on the ground by local guides. Three trips in this catalogue finish in the Maldives, and all three give you four nights on one island. The shortest is a five-day travel component from EUR 700. The longest is a 15-day India route that closes at Embudu Village Resort. Every one is private and guided.

Why Maldives

One of the regions we know best

We've spent years travelling across Maldives in every season. The trips below are built around the routes that work — the quiet ones, the beautiful ones, the ones with great food at the end of the day.

If none of them quite fit, get in touch. We'll happily build you a private version, shaped around your interests, fitness and pace.

Introduction to Maldives

The Maldives sit at the end of trips here, not at the start. This is an India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka operator with a team in Delhi, and the islands appear in the catalogue as a beach finish — the days after the forts, the palaces and the long drives. Three tours out of thirty-one touch the Maldives. Two carry the Maldives tag; the third is filed under Sri Lanka. Each one puts you on a single hotel island for four nights. None of them island-hops.

The simplest is the five-day travel component, from EUR 700, filed under the north and south atolls. Its itinerary runs to three entries. You land at Malé, a staff member meets you at the airport, and a speedboat takes you out to the hotel island. Days two, three and four are yours to shape. On day five you are driven back to Malé in time for your flight home, and the itinerary signs off by hoping to welcome you back to India soon. The title says the same thing more plainly: this is a travel component, a module you attach to a longer trip.

The longer product is India's facets & Maldives, 15 days from EUR 3,140 — the highest starting price in the catalogue. Ten of those days are in India, and they are dense. Delhi first: the Red Fort, the Jama Masjid where up to 20,000 worshippers gather, India Gate, the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara and Lodhi Garden. Then Agra for the Taj Mahal, closed on Fridays, and Agra Fort, with an afternoon cooking demonstration in a local family's home and dinner with your hosts. Day four crosses Fatehpur Sikri and the Chand Baori stepwell at Abhaneri, where hundreds of steps drop more than 20 metres to the water, and ends in Jaipur with a Bollywood film at the Raj Mandir cinema.

Rajasthan takes the middle. Amber Fort above Maotha Lake, the Jantar Mantar observatory, the City Palace and the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur; Mehrangarh Fort on its 130-metre hill over the blue houses of Jodhpur, with the white marble Jaswant Thada mausoleum set against the fort behind it; the Adinath Jain temple at Ranakpur and its 1,444 carved marble pillars; then Udaipur for two nights, with a boat ride on Lake Pichola past Jag Mandir and Jag Niwas when the water level allows. Mumbai closes the mainland — the Elephanta Island caves by ferry, the Gateway of India, the Mahalaxmi Dhobi Ghat laundry, and Mani Bhavan, where Gandhi lived. If that half is the real point of your trip, the India country page and the Delhi, Golden Triangle and Rajasthan pages go through it properly.

Only on day 11 do you fly to the Maldives, and the pattern repeats: speedboat from Malé airport to the island, then four nights. This is the one Maldives stay in the catalogue where the property is named — Embudu Village Resort, in a Superior Beach Bungalow. Days 12 to 14 are unstructured. The hotel runs land and water activities and some of them carry an extra charge. On day 15 you go back to Malé by speedboat or seaplane, depending on your departure time.

The third route is filed under Sri Lanka rather than here. Breathtaking nature & culture, from EUR 1,220, works through the Dambulla cave temples, the rock at Sigiriya, the beach at Pasikuda, the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, the tea plantations around Nuwara Eliya, a jeep safari in Yala and the Dutch fort at Galle — then transfers you to Bandaranaike International Airport for a flight to the Maldives and four nights on a resort island. Read that ending carefully: the island resort is your choice and is priced as an optional extra depending on category, so it sits outside the EUR 1,220. The Sri Lanka page and the Sigiriya, Ella and Yala pages cover the mainland weeks.

On rooms, set expectations from the catalogue and not from Maldives marketing elsewhere. Hotels run Standard, Deluxe, Superior and Executive. There is no five-star tier here, and no overwater villa in any of the three itineraries. The India route books Superior rooms across the mainland, a suite in Jaipur, and a Superior Beach Bungalow on the island.

Every trip is private and guided, and there are no scheduled group departures. Both Maldives-tagged products list an English-speaking guide, breakfast, hotel accommodation, a bottle of water on arrival and 24-hour contact for the whole trip as included. International flights are not included on any of them. Raise one question when you enquire: the sector that carries you to the islands — Mumbai to Malé, or Colombo to Malé — crosses a border, and no itinerary says it is covered, so get it confirmed in writing before you book. The five-day component lists November to April as its travel window; the other two carry no season. In practice your dates follow the India or Sri Lanka half you are attaching them to.

Can I book the Maldives on its own?

Can I book the Maldives on its own?

The five-day stay is listed as its own product at EUR 700, and like everything here it is private. But it is called a travel component, and the itinerary reads like one: arrival by speedboat, three open beach days, transfer back to Malé, and a closing line hoping to welcome you back to India. It is built to hang off a longer trip. If you want a Maldives-only holiday with resort comparison, liveaboards or a dive course, a dedicated Maldives specialist will serve you better than this catalogue.

Which trips end in the Maldives?

Which trips end in the Maldives?

Three. The five-day travel component from EUR 700; India's facets & Maldives, 15 days from EUR 3,140, which spends ten days in India before flying to the islands on day 11; and Breathtaking nature & culture from EUR 1,220, filed under Sri Lanka, which finishes the same way after Galle. All three give you four nights on one island.

Which resort will I stay on, and what is there to do?

Which resort will I stay on, and what is there to do?

Only the India route names a property: Embudu Village Resort, four nights in a Superior Beach Bungalow. The five-day component does not specify one. On the Sri Lanka route the resort is your choice and is priced as an optional extra depending on the category, so it sits outside the headline price. The island days themselves are unstructured — no diving, snorkelling trips or island-hopping are scheduled. Whatever land and water activities you do are the ones your hotel runs, arranged there, some at additional cost.

Is the flight to the islands included?

Is the flight to the islands included?

International flights are not included on any of these trips, and that matters more here than usual. The sector that takes you to the Maldives — Mumbai to Malé on the India route, Colombo to Malé on the Sri Lanka one — crosses a border, and neither itinerary states that it is covered. Ask the team to confirm in writing whether that flight is in your quote before you book. The speedboat from Malé airport out to the hotel island is part of the trip, as is the speedboat or seaplane back on departure day.

When is the best time to go?

When is the best time to go?

The five-day travel component lists November to April as its travel window. The two longer routes carry no stated season. Because the Maldives leg is short and designed to close a longer trip, your dates in practice follow the India or Sri Lanka half you are attaching them to. Give the team your window and they will build the mainland section around it.

Is this a group tour?

Is this a group tour?

No. Every trip in this catalogue is private and guided, and there are no scheduled group departures. Both Maldives-tagged products list an English-speaking guide, breakfast, hotel accommodation, a bottle of water on arrival and 24-hour contact throughout as included. Rooms run Standard, Deluxe, Superior and Executive — there is no five-star tier, and no overwater villa appears in any of the three itineraries.
