Introduction to Goa
Goa is India's smallest state, a strip of Arabian Sea coast that was Portuguese until 1961 and later became legendary with the hippie generation. In our programme it appears twice, and both times at the end of something longer.
The short version is a travel component: Beach holiday in Goa, five days from EUR 350. You arrive in Goa, a member of the team meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel. Days two, three and four are yours — the itinerary says it outright: no vehicle available, no tour guide. On day five you are transferred back to Goa airport for the flight home. That is the whole programme. Three open days on a beach, with a transfer day at each end.
The long version builds the same ending into a full route. The diversity of South India runs 25 days from EUR 2860 and starts in Chennai: the temple towns of Mahabalipuram, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur, the French quarter at Pondicherry, the Meenakshi Temple at Madurai, the spice hills of Periyar, a night on a houseboat in the Alleppey backwaters, Kochi's Chinese fishing nets, the Nilgiri toy train up to Ooty, Mysore Palace, the ruins of Hampi. On day 21 you leave the cliff temples at Badami and head for Goa. Days 22 to 24 are free in exactly the same way, and you fly home on day 25.
So Goa here is the decompression, not the reason to travel. Four nights and three unscheduled days at the end of a route that has something planned almost every day for three weeks. What it does not include is a guided Goa. Neither itinerary has any sightseeing in the state — not the Portuguese churches, not the markets, not a spice farm, not a boat trip. Anything of that kind you arrange from your hotel, with a local taxi, on your own time.
Both trips are private and tailor-made, and neither carries fixed departure dates, so the beach block attaches to whatever you are already doing. The one thing worth deciding early is which end of the state you want: north for nightlife, south for quiet. Neither itinerary names a beach or a hotel — that is settled when the trip is put together, so tell us which side you have in mind.
Can I book Goa on its own?
Goa is sold as a travel component — five days from EUR 350, written as the finish to a longer India trip. The other way to reach it in our programme is the 25-day South India tour, which arrives in Goa on day 21. Nothing in the Goa days is guided in either version, so if a guided Goa is what you are after, neither one delivers it.
What is actually included in the Goa days?
The airport meet and the transfer to your hotel on arrival, the hotel nights, and the transfer back to Goa airport at the end. Between those, the itinerary is explicit: no vehicle available, no tour guide. The free days are unstructured by design, and anything you want to do beyond the beach you arrange from the hotel.
How many free days do I actually get?
Three, in both versions. The five-day extension is one arrival day, three open days and one departure day. The 25-day South India tour reaches Goa on day 21, leaves days 22 to 24 open and flies you home on day 25. Four nights either way.
Is there any sightseeing in Goa on these trips?
No. Neither itinerary includes guided sightseeing anywhere in the state, and no vehicle or guide is assigned to the beach days. Goa's Portuguese past is most visible around the capital, but getting there is a taxi you book from your hotel, not a line on your itinerary. We would rather say that now than have you arrive expecting a tour.
Which beach will I be staying on?
The itineraries do not name one. Both trips are private and tailor-made, so the hotel is settled when the trip is put together. The choice that matters most is which end of the state you want — north for nightlife, south for quiet. Tell us which you have in mind before we put a price together.
