Travel in Adam's Peak
Tailor-made trips in Adam's Peak, designed by our team in Delhi and run on the ground by local guides. Adam's Peak is a 2,243-metre pilgrim mountain climbed in the dark — more than 5,000 steps to a summit temple for sunrise. Two of our 14-day Sri Lanka trips make the climb, and only one of them sleeps at the foot of the mountain.

Why Adam's Peak
One of the regions we know best
We've spent years travelling across Adam's Peak in every season. The trips below are built around the routes that work — the quiet ones, the beautiful ones, the ones with great food at the end of the day.
If none of them quite fit, get in touch. We'll happily build you a private version, shaped around your interests, fitness and pace.

Travel guide
Introduction to Adam's Peak
Adam's Peak — Sri Pada — is a 2,243-metre summit standing in tropical rainforest inside the Sri Pada reserve, Sri Lanka's third-largest. It is not the island's highest mountain. It is the one people climb. A single footprint in the rock at the top is venerated as Buddha's by Buddhists, as Shiva's by Hindus, as Adam's by Muslims and as Saint Thomas's by Christians, and pilgrims of all four walk up the same staircase.
That staircase is the whole point. More than 5,000 stone steps, steep and worn smooth in places, climb about 1,000 metres from the village at the bottom to the small temple at the summit. You set off in the dark to be standing at the top for sunrise. Seen from a distance the route shows as a line of lights winding up the mountain, and there is chanting at the top when you get there.
Two of our Sri Lanka itineraries climb it, and they are not equivalent.
Culture & nature — 14 days, from EUR 1,120 — is the route built around the mountain. It takes in Kandy on day 2, crosses to the Dalhousie side on day 3, and sleeps at Nallathanni, the village at the trailhead: one night, Punsisi Resort, standard room. Day 4 is the climb. After the descent the trip drives on the same morning to Nuwara Eliya for a tea factory and a walk through the plantations, then to Horton Plains and World's End the day after. No rest day is built in on either side of the ascent.
Forests, tea plantations & culture — 14 days, from EUR 1,140 — has the same two-day pattern in its itinerary: day 8 approaches the mountain, day 9 climbs it. One thing to know before you pick it for Adam's Peak. Its accommodation list names no hotel at the trailhead; its highland nights sit in Ella. The day text describes arriving, resting and starting early, while the hotel list keeps you a drive away. Ask us for the night-by-night breakdown on your quote so you know where you are actually sleeping the night before the climb.
A third trip, Sri Lanka's glory, mentions Little Adam's Peak. That is a different hill — a short, gentle walk above Ella that shares nothing with the pilgrim mountain but the name. That itinerary does not go to Dalhousie, so it is not listed on this page.
Neither of the two names a season, and both are sold year round. The mountain the itineraries describe — the lit path, the crowds, the chanting — is the mountain in pilgrimage season. Outside it the summit is quieter and wetter. Tell us your dates when you enquire and we will tell you what to expect on the day.
Both trips are private and guided. A German-speaking guide is included, along with hotel accommodation, breakfast, 24-hour availability throughout the trip and a bottle of water on arrival. International flights are not included; that is the only exclusion either itinerary names. Rooms are standard, with a deluxe room at Sinharaja on both routes, and there is no five-star tier.
Both are rated easy overall. That rating covers the fortnight, not this particular morning — Adam's Peak is the hardest thing either itinerary asks of you.

Which trips actually climb Adam's Peak?
Two of them. Culture & nature, 14 days from EUR 1,120, and Forests, tea plantations & culture, 14 days from EUR 1,140. A third itinerary, Sri Lanka's glory, mentions Little Adam's Peak — that is a separate, easy hill above Ella with no link to the pilgrim mountain beyond the name, and that trip does not go to Dalhousie. It is not listed on this page.

How hard is the climb?
More than 5,000 steps and roughly 1,000 metres of ascent to 2,243 metres, walked in the dark. The steps are steep and worn smooth in places. Both trips are rated easy overall, but that rating describes the whole fortnight — this is the hardest morning on either itinerary, harder than the Horton Plains walk out to World's End.

Where do I sleep the night before the climb?
On Culture & nature, at Nallathanni at the foot of the mountain: Punsisi Resort, standard room, one night, with the ascent the next morning. Forests, tea plantations & culture describes the same approach-then-climb pattern across days 8 and 9, but its accommodation list names no hotel at the trailhead and places its highland nights in Ella. If the mountain is your reason for choosing that route, ask us for the night-by-night breakdown on your quote first.

When is the best time to climb it?
Neither itinerary names a season, and both trips are sold year round. The mountain the day texts describe — the lit path, the crowd of pilgrims, the chanting at the summit — is the mountain in pilgrimage season. Outside that period it is quieter and wetter at the top. Give us your dates when you enquire and we will tell you what the climb is likely to be like then.

What is included, and what is not?
Both trips are private and guided. Included: a German-speaking guide, hotel accommodation, breakfast, 24-hour availability throughout the trip, and a bottle of water on arrival. International flights are not included, and that is the only exclusion either itinerary names. Rooms are standard, with a deluxe room at Sinharaja on both routes — there is no five-star tier.
